As we come towards the end of the year, annual auto-renewals for certification bodies hang over the heads of installers who self-certify works through our main competitor. But who wants a big autorenewal bill at Christmas?
This year has been especially tough for installers and it was evident during lockdown that installers who aren’t part of Certass did not receive the support they needed quickly enough to be able to make critical decisions for their businesses.
During the first lockdown, I was having daily conversations with MPs, my fellow BRAC members, the Competent Persons Forum, the team at TrustMark and Trade Association Forum, so although it was super busy, it gave me access to more information that I could pass onto Certass members direct via our Facebook Forum which was set-up when we went into Lockdown in March.
It’s proven a useful resource for Certass members and now they are using it to ask questions of their fellow members and get support from our team, including clarification on updates from Government and support with homeowner queries.
On top of this, we were the first to market with correct and comprehensive support for installers to get back to work, COVID safe with our Safe Procedures pack which covered everything from method statements, to risk assessments, homeowner/installer self-assessment forms, checklists and online sales guidance.
This live information and technical guidance is going to be a critical part of the Certass support package in 2021, as there are huge regulatory changes on the horizon with MTC, and installers are going to have to find ways to prove their competency. Certass MTC Continuum members already have the solution, with the Glazing Competency Portal – a platform of bite-sized training sessions where installers can earn certificates to prove their knowledge without forking out for additional onsite audits next year.
The one positive that has come out of lockdown is the surge of support for local businesses and more of us are choosing to Shop Local, which has the potential to give a great boost to the SMEs of our membership. Certass helps installers get online with our free member profile pages on the Certass website so that the 1000 homeowner searches on our contractor search every month can find their local, trusted Certass installer. There’s a free reviews service too where your previous customers can leave feedback on your work to help potential customers find the best installer for their project.
There’s more exciting digital support on the way too, to help installers make the most of online sales opportunities and we’re partnering with some of the best providers in the industry to get the best rates for members. But we’ll never charge extra for our member benefits – we’re about offering common-sense certification at a low monthly cost for installers, just £24.95 +VAT per month.
If you felt let down, or left out in the cold during the pandemic by your certification body, now is the time to switch to a certification body that looks after your interests first. At Certass, we’ve got your back, and we’re here to help you survive and thrive through the challenges of the year ahead.
